The Stryker Files 1 & 2 Behind the Scenes Pics

Hey Stryker-Heads! Here are some long overdue behind the scenes pics from episode 1 and 2. We came up with the first Stryker as a short fun shoot we could do in a day and, by golly, that's what we did! (It was also partly inspired by a bizarre coat Chris found in a thrift store.)

In McCarren Park where we shot "Way of the Cardboard Warrior."

Hey, it's TV's Caitlin Norton (Sandwich of Terror) with Funnyman Chris Prine (rehab)!

Shooting at Escape Pod Studios (aka Chris's apartment)

The triumphant return of (the Channy Nominated) Polly H. Squawkers III. After the success of Sandwich of Terror 3, Polly had several dressing room demands for this shoot: Evian water, filet mignon parrot food, and a selection of whores.

In episode 2, we used real 100% kids! They're called "show children" and available for rental at Halloween Adventure. It helped bring realism to this very grounded story of cyber punks and inexplicable flying.

Autumn Clark, Sherlockbot Head Wrangler

Matt Sears was kind enough to let us surgically replace part of his skin with metal. He has since died from a skin infection. What a trooper!

We flew to Vancouver to do this one shot, since they're known for their "realer than real sidewalks".

Hey, we're back at the alley where we shot the hospital scene from Scissor Cop 6! In this shot, Chris and Aldous Davidson go over some fight Choreography, while Jeremy and I engage in that time old debate: Captain Harris or Commandant Mauser from the Police Academy series. (Captain Harris).

The Cyber Gang poses for their debut boy band album "(Robot) Boyz II Men".

47 Seconds Behind the Scenes Pics

Hello friends/loved ones/bitter rivals!

Here's some pics from our "47 Seconds" sketch. Chris wrote it many months ago and it was inspired by all the inane grammatically incorrect (and very entertaining) YouTube comments we get. We waited to shoot it so we could work with the fine folks at Waverly Films and use their spacious office digs. It was Jer's idea to add the awesome opening with Chris walking through the various Waverly shoots. All in all, a great day with our filming friends!

Jeremy sets up a shot with Waverly's Christopher Ford (last seen in Sandwich of Terror 4) and Chris.

RUN!! It's Giant Jeremy!

Way of the Cardboard Warrior Behind the Scenes Pics

The Cardboard Tube Fighting League was in town in Brooklyn on July 12, so Chris cooked up a loose quick sketch, Jeremy made an awesome cardboard costume, and we shot it.

En route to McCarren Park.

Originally, Jeremy was never going to participate in the cardboard fighting, but when we arrived everyone was buzzing about this unknown combatant. And in a matter of minutes, Jer was thrown into a match...which he won!

Always stretch before handling cardboard.

For some reason, the crowd referred to Jeremy as "Turtle" (okay, I can see a TMNT facial resemblance in the mask). Oddly enough, the first guy he fought looked like "Shredder."

Duel.

Fight.

Shake.

Tired...and in need of brunch.

Sandwich of PICTURES

Here's a crapload of pictures from Sandwich of Terror Episode 4! For the first time, every shoot was photo-documented. Even though we were ingloriously cancelled at Channel 101: NY, we're all really proud of this one. It was a fun and challenging episode to make!

I appeared multiple times at the same time on screen in "The Life And Time Travel of Dr. Barnabus Perriwinkle." How'd we do it? Well, after watching "Multiplicity" a dozen times...we decided to use numerous split screens (or "halfsies" as they're called in the biz). Both Chris and Jeremy acted as my stand-ins so I could react to myselves (goddamn prima donnas!).

In this bottom picture, Chris is playing "TOM2." Later on, we'll overlay myself as "TOM2" but remove half of the--uhhh, this is really boring to explain...we used magic! We got ourselves a "production wizard" named Hank and he waved his arms and exclaimed "Wizardly Wiz Ta-zam!" and the effect was achieved. (I love that fucking wizard.)

Here's ace DP Josh Wolitzky and our director Jeremy Westphal either A) framing a shot or B) silently mulling dinner options. (UPDATED!! Jeremy was actually consuming his own hand to get Josh's attention...It didn't work.)

Mr. Greg Erskine whipped up these awesome "Important President" prop beers. They're so regal looking! And chock full of barley, hops, and Van Buren!
We had a large cast and crew for "Any Witch Way You Can" (FUN FACT!! If you look closely you can spot "Clyde the Orangutan" in the background of this story). This was our first big night shoot and you'd never believe how we did it...lights! After blindly fumbling and groping around in the dark for a few hours, we decided to try using lights while shooting. And boy, did they ever work! Yup. They really shed some light on the subject! (FUN FACT!! This is an inside production joke because movie lights are commonly stored in sheds.)

In this bottom picture Phil Pinto is holding something rectangular, Autumn Clark has her hand up for some reason, and Christopher Ford and I are looking up. This is how movies are made.

Here's Autumn in her awesome witch make-up that she put on herself. She played both "Sharon" and the witch to best illustrate the introspective duality that one encounters in life. Also, the other lady actress (or "lactress" as they're called in the biz) never showed up, so Autumn had to do both parts.

Eric Stoltz from "Mask" and Bill Clinton made a surprise set visit.

Rob Lathan (aka "Hard Hat" from Mister Glasses) was nice enough to help us in starring in our 1980s set PSAs. In writing the episode, we wanted to come up with some really lame and ill-conceived PSAs geared towards kids. And we've always enjoyed writing characters that love sports, but don't understand them at all, so that's why the "messages" make little to no sense.

It was a super hot day when we shot in McCarron Park. That's why I'm so disoriented and trying to get audio from a Twix wrapper (off-screen) instead of Rob.

(FUN FACT!! Jeremy is using a "camera tripod" in this picture. Scientists and film historians still have no idea what it's precisely used for, but they've theorized that one possible use is drying on-set laundry).

He took my water.

Sandwich of Terror 1 & 2 Behind the Scenes Pics

Hello, Sandwich Enthusiasts! Just wanted to post a few behind the scenes pictures.

Sandwich of Terror began as an idea Chris and I had sometime around the second episode of Scissor Cop. We both loved the cheesiness of "Tales from the Darkside" and wanted to do something that was easy to shoot, as well as being a bit more geared towards our sketch comedy background. It's also a nice challenge to create two completely different "stories" in the span of five minutes...and have weird little WXZT station promos in between.

This picture is from our first Sandwich shoot for "The Stinkening" in which the great Mitch Magee ("Double M" to friends) helped us out.

Here I am as "Murphy Steinbaum" (aka "America's Sweetheart") in one of our WXZT bumpers.

Shooting "Friend or Faux?" with Channel 101-ers Jon Golbe and Jess Lane. Check out Teen Homicide or The Jon & Jess Variety Hour for more of their top notch work.

NERD ALERT!!
This was Sherlockbot from a classic Waverly Films sketch. Jeremy helped make it and Chris painted over it for this shoot. We've been wanting to use the ol' guy for some time now.

Shek Baker as landlord extraordinaire, Mr. Satanson.

Caitlin Norton (the scorned "Linda" from "Contractual Damnation") navigating the somewhat cramped confines of our main shooting hub in Chris's apartment (a ridiculous amount of sketches/scenes have been shot here).

Yours in Sandwiches,
Tom

Scissor Cop Finale Behind the Scenes Pics

Well, as the old saying goes, "All good action/comedy web series must come to an end," so through the following pictures (and extensive therapy sessions), let's all work through our grief and bid a fond adieu to Scissor Cop.

We shot everything in a day and our first scene was in a nearby park. We lucked out with the discovery of this oddly shaped concrete slab that had the word "TELEPHONE" on it which doubled as our grave stone (through the magic of Photoshop).

NERD ALERT!!
From far away, it kind of looks like one of the Dharma hatches on Lost.

SPOILER ALERT FOR THE BELOW PICTURES/COMMENTS!! (just watch the goddamn episode already!)

This was the first "flash-forward." I've had the idea to end Scissor Cop with flash-forwardS for a while and I feel that we executed it very well. Scissor Cop was always viewed as an action-y show and likened to "24" or "Die Hard" or "Lethal Weapon 4." However, for me, "Lost" was always the biggest influence on writing and structuring the episodes, especially with ripping-off (I mean, "blatantly stealing") their brilliant flash-forward storytelling device.

Most of the episode was shot in the basement of my building where we had shot the bookends for Scissor Cop 6.

We actually shot the beginning of the finale way back in October, on the same day we had finished #6. We knew it'd be too tough to try and match the continuity of the blood splattered newspapers, so we had to think of a way to get Johnny out of the room, hence the ol' "kick to the balls" trick (a plot device used since Shakespeare, I believe).

Here's Benny laughing at his reprehensible thievery from Mr. Verde's "Box of Guns." That box is strictly "honor code" and he's taken advantage of it! The nerve!

"Cocaine Bananas" - now sweeping the drug dealing world!

R.I.P. McDunnough, beloved baby thief with the Unibomber's fashion sense.

R.I.P. Raymond Driggs/Mr. Verde, beloved secret villain with an enthusiasm for all things bananas and fake mustaches.

Be seeing you!

Behind the Scenes of The Puppet Sketch

Hello, my friends. Tom Silvestro here. Just wanted to post a few pictures of the "Get on The Winning Team" shoot. We shot in Barcade in early November.

Autumn Clark and Jeremy Westpahl made the awesome puppets (left to right: Smumbles and Sporps) and provided the puppeteering. They had previously worked their puppet magic on Puppet Rapist.

Here's Phil Pinto setting up a shot of Smumbles leaving the bar. Phil had previously helped us with shooting for Scissor Cop Episode 5 during the warehouse scene. He also had his throat viciously slashed by Verde as a Nurse in episode 6.

"Pull da strings!"

Sporps and Rick Murphy share a bonding moment before boarding the winning team.

STABBED!

Hey everyone, Jeremy Westphal here.

It's becoming quite popular these days to kill yourself on the internet so that countless others may watch. Without further ado, I give you my death:

video

This rater UNCONVINCING footage was a part of a test shoot that me and Chris Prine filmed to work out the kinks with a digital blood effect.

Here's how we did it:
We took a squeeze-bottle full of ketchup and squirted it several times while in front of a green-screen. Then, Chris keyed out the green background during editing and placed the squirts (sped up and closer together) over some footage. Watch out for shadows! Casting shadows will make your green-screen footage look like shit after the green has been keyed out.

Originally this blood effect was just going to be used in "Scissor Cop: Episode #3" when Billy stabs his eye out, but we've used it again in "Scissor Cop: Episode #5" and AGAIN in "Scissor Cop: Episode #6".

Can you see where?

Scissor Cop 6 Production Stills

Hello, bloggernauts! Tom here. I wanted to put up some behind the scenes pics of Scissor Cop 6 (aka "Verde: The Color of Evil").

With this episode, we finally had the chance to shoot in the creepy alleyway construction we had ours eyes on since episode 4. It was worth the wait, since it makes a handsome location for our back alley medical scene.

In this picture, Backalley Medical's finest prep Mrs. Driggs for her surgery.

Here's a shot of Chris in our lovely and cozy Waiting Alley.

It was really cold and windy that day, so for a few shots we tried to block the boom for sound (and cuddling) purposes.

We rented a room at a music/acting rehearsal studio for the interrogation scene. It was the same place where we shot the piano flashback for episode 2.

Slap.

Movie Magic Alert! The hospital scene wasn't actually shot in a hospital. Rather, it was Chris's apartment. How'd we do it? Lasers.

Mitch Magee ("Mister Glasses") gets into character with the help of the greatest fake goatee...we could afford.

And finally, here's a pic of Benny and Chris in Verde's torture room. How's the Scissor Copper gonna get out of this one? Stay tuned...

Scissor Cop 5: Behind the Scenes

Hello! Party like it's 2003: we finally got a blog! To kick things off I thought we'd do a little behind the scenes of the action packed Scissor Cop Episode 5!

We intially set our sights on using an alley way, but abandoned it (we had previously abandoned that poor little alley during episode 4, but finally used it in episode 6) after lucking out with a totally sweet warehouse.

For the car stunt we had 3 cameras, with 1 running at 60 fps for slow-mo. With some careful placement of actors, camera angles, and a wall of boxes, this stunt looks much more dangerous and spectacular than it actually is. That said, don't do stunts.
